The 2009 Gordon Longhorns Football Coaching Staff
|
Head Coach: Shane Mallory -
On July 16, 2009 Shane Mallory was officially named head coach of the Gordon Longhorns. Coach Mallory comes to Gordon after
one season at Rising Star, where he turned around a program that had gone 1-9 the year before. Mallory was the defensive coordinator
for the Woodson Cowboys for two years prior to Rising Star. He helped to guide the Cowboys to a quarterfinal berth in 2006,
losing to eventual state
champion Northside. In 2007 his team made it to the state finals, where they were narrowly defeated by Motley County.
Prior to his stint at Woodson, Mallory did his student teaching at Strawn under Dewaine Lee.
Coach Mallory is a gradutate of Tarleton State and Strawn High School. As a player at Strawn he was a major factor in
Strawn's 13-1 semi-final run in 1998 under coach Clyde Parham (a Gordon graduate). That season was also the first time Strawn had
beaten Gordon in eight years. Mallory becomes the first Strawn graduate to be named head coach
at Gordon.
Assistant Coaches: Brandon Young and Andrew Heers - Coach Brandon Young has coached
previously at Gatesville and Grosebeck. Young went to high school at Hamilton. Gordon will be Andrew Heers' first coaching position.
